At approximately 9:25 p.m., the Charles County 911 Center received multiple emergency calls reporting a house fire in the 800 block of Copley Avenue. A full structure fire assignment, totaling 42 Fire/EMS personnel, was immediately dispatched to the scene. Engine 33 arrived within minutes and confirmed a working garage fire, prompting the request for the Working Fire Dispatch.
Chief 3A (Duffer) assumed incident command and began assigning arriving units to tactical divisions and support functions.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions inside the garage with rapid extension into the attic and across the roofline of the two-story residence. As flames advanced along the roof structure, evacuation tones were sounded to ensure the safety of personnel operating inside. Crews then re-entered the structure with additional hose lines to continue extinguishment efforts.
Primary and secondary searches of the residence confirmed all occupants had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency crews.
The fire was placed under control in approximately 30 minutes, with relief crews rotating in to support overhaul operations.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal was notified that smoking materials in the garage were determined to be discarded.
The American Red Cross was requested to provide assistance to the two displaced occupants.
No injuries were reported. Fire/EMS personnel cleared the scene in just under three hours.
