By Coordinator/Public Information Officer William Smith
April 4, 2023

Just after 10:15 PM firefighters from Waldorf and surrounding areas including mutual aid from Prince George’s County and NDW Indian Head responded to the 6600 block of Coyote Court in Waldorf, for the reported house on fire. Our 911 center confirmed they have received multiple 911 calls reporting the rear of the house was on fire.

Fire/EMS units from Waldorf were on scene of a serious traffic accident at the time of the house fire bringing E11 first due; arrived on the scene to find a two-story residence with smoke and fire showing with some exposure concerns established "tactical command". Fire units advanced multiple attack lines and found fire throughout the attic with the fire threatening nearby structures.

Chief 12B (Turner) arrived on the scene assuming command, assigned Chief 11 (McCormick) "division one supervisor". A short time into the incident, evacuation tones were sounded per Chief 11 and Command. T11 aerial ladder deployed their ladder pipe in "defensive mode" for approximately 5 minutes to extinguish this well advanced fire throughout the rear and attic areas of the structure.

Crews then returned to an "offensive attack" extinguishing all remaining fire in the structure under the direction of BC2 and CH1A. Overhaul was conducted by the truck companies on scene, fire was controlled under 40 minutes.

A search of the structure was completed, one adult female was accounted for and treated by EMS personnel on scene. One firefighter reportedly suffered injuries to the hand and treated on scene.

The fire was controlled in under 40 minutes, 60 firefighter and EMS personnel were on scene, County Fire Chief Kaufmann on scene at the
"command post".

The Office of the State Fire Marshal on scene to investigate the cause of the fire. SMECO responded to assist with securing utilities and the American Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced resident.
