September 23, 2020

10:26 p.m. this evening 27 Charles County Volunteers responded to the Potomac River in the area of Morgantown Road for a reported "canoe flipped in the water" with two souls in the water. The water rescue assignment was immediately dispatched bringing Newburg Volunteer Fire Boat #14, Cobb Island Volunteer Boat #6, Tenth District Volunteer Boat #8 and the dive units from our dive rescue company. Command established by Chief 10A (Frye), and assignments and coordinates were relayed to responding marine units while land units remained ready at the observation location. A short time later, Boat #14 reports they "have eyes" on two males in the water approaching with the assistance of MSP Aviation Trooper #7. Boat #14 with both male canoers onboard advised they were the only persons onboard, Boat #14 brought both males to shore to awaiting EMS personnel. Both subjects refused any treatment or transport to the hospital as confirmed by Southern Medical Duty Officer. Command released all units within one hour of the beginning of the incident....
