| At approximately 11:30 a.m. today, Charles County Volunteer Fire/EMS departments were dispatched to the 16000 block of Rivers Reach Lane in Hughesville for a reported house fire. Volunteer firefighters from Hughesville, Dentsville, La Plata, Waldorf, and surrounding mutual aid departments responded to the incident. Hughesville ETA2 and Calvert County Engine 22 arrived shortly after dispatch and confirmed an active fire in the basement. Chief 3A (Duffer) established command, coordinating firefighting operations as additional crews arrived. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of responding firefighters, the fire was successfully contained to the basement, preventing flames from spreading to the upper levels of the residence. Smoke conditions were reported throughout the home. One firefighter from Calvert County was transported from the scene for medical evaluation after exiting the structure. Preliminary information indicates the fire originated in the basement. The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause. We extend our appreciation to all responding volunteer firefighters and mutual aid partners for their teamwork, professionalism, and dedication to protecting our communities. In addition, we thank the departments who "back filled" the communities while others were on scene Additional updates will be shared as information becomes available. #CharlesCountyFireEMS #VolunteerFirefighters #HughesvilleMD #FireRescue #MarylandFireService #VolunteersServingOurCommunity |
