The Charles County Volunteer Fire and EMS Associations would like to recognize and thank the leadership who joined us during the Charles County Board of County Commissioners meeting on October 6, 2026, as Fire Prevention Week 2026 was officially recognized.

Pictured left to right: County Commissioner Gilbert “BJ” Bowling, Fire/EMS Coordinator & PIO William Smith, County Fire Chief Mark Kaufmann, Special Operations Chief Ryan Sekuterski, and County Commissioner Thomasina Coates.

Their attendance and continued support demonstrate the strong partnership between Charles County Government and our volunteer Fire/EMS system as we work together to promote fire prevention, public education, and community safety.
Fire Prevention Week is an important reminder that preventing fires begins long before the alarm sounds. Through education, working smoke alarms, home fire escape planning, and community outreach, we can all help make Charles County safer.

And most importantly, we extend our sincere appreciation to the dedicated volunteer Fire and EMS members throughout Charles County who graciously give their time to serve and protect their communities. Whether conducting fire prevention programs, installing smoke alarms, visiting schools, participating in community events, or answering emergency calls, their commitment makes Fire Prevention Week—and our year-round fire and life safety mission—possible.

Thank you for your continued dedication to Fire Prevention Week 2026 and to the citizens of Charles County we proudly serve.
