| Just before 3:00 PM, the Charles County 911 Center received reports of a house on fire on Rosewood Drive in the Westlake area, which is served by Company 12. Units responded promptly, and Rescue Engine 12 arrived within minutes, confirming visible fire from the rear of the home. An attack line was deployed to the back of the structure. Engine 33 soon arrived and advanced an attack line through the front. Battalion Chief 12C took command upon arrival and began organizing responding units into divisions throughout the structure. Shortly after, Engine 33 and Chief 3A reported fire spreading in the attic and throughout the structure. They requested preparations for ladder pipe operations to enhance firefighting efforts. The incident commander ordered Truck 1 to set up its ladder pipe. All personnel were instructed to exit the building, and a personnel accountability report was conducted for all crews operating on the fireground. All units were accounted for. After about 15 minutes of heavy water flow using the ladder pipe, the fire was brought under control, and crews redeployed handlines where necessary to fully extinguish the fire. The incident commander requested assistance from the Red Cross and SMECO. Two volunteer firefighters sustained injuries; one was treated at the scene, and the other was transported to the Washington Hospital Burn Center with second-degree burns to his forearm. Once the fire was extinguished, command conducted a debriefing with all units. The fire marshals office carried out its investigation, after which all units cleared the scene. |
