Waldorf Volunteer Past Chief Daniel J. Stevens Awarded the Gladhill-Thompson Award

By Coordinator/Public Information Officer William Smith
June 23, 2023

During the MSFA 131st Annual Convention held this week in Ocean City, MD. Waldorf Past Fire Chief Daniel J. Stevens was awarded the prestigious Gladhill-Thompson Award and reads as follows:

This award was originally established by Mr. Bernard D. “Buck” Gladhill and accepted by the MSFA Executive Committee in 1974. Mr. Gladhill saw the need to honor an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the future welfare of the MSFA and would be known as the Gladhill Trophy. The award will be considered the highest Maryland State Firemen’s Association award that can be conferred on an individual. It will be awarded on a highly selective basis to an individual who, in the opinion of the judges, has made an outstanding contribution to the future welfare of members of the MSFA or who has distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious service of major significance to the MSFA or the Fire Service of the United States. In 1984 the award was changed to the Gladhill-Thompson Trophy in recognition of both Mr. Gladhill and Chief Thompson.

On behalf of the 1200 active and retired volunteers in Charles County including 17 departments, we salute Chief Stevens on this very deserving award. We thank the entire Stevens family and the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department for sharing Chief Dan with the Southern Maryland and State of Maryland Fire/EMS services.

Congratulations Chief Stevens! If anyone is deserving of such a honor it is none other than you Sir! To say it's been a pleasure and the experience of a lifetime to serve under your command is an understatement! Thank you for all you've done and continue to do for the men and women of the fire and emergency medical services!
