Barn and House Destroyed By Fire In Hughesville

Hughesville Volunteers and surrounding departments including mutual aid from Prince George's, Calvert, and St. Mary's Counties responded for a reported "barn on fire" on Covington Road in Hughesville at about 4:00 p.m. today. Fire units from Hughesville and PGFD Baden arrived together reporting a barn that has burned to the ground with extension into the existing home feet away from the barn. Command was established by Chief 2 (Herbert) and assigned the incoming units tasks including a water fill site with Chief 1B (Ianeiro) as Water Supply Officer. Fire traveled the length of the attic area from right to left, fire was extinguished an about on hour, no injuries reported, the family pet cat was located and reunited with its owner. Command released units after overhaul and an incident "hot wash"...
