Vegetation Sparks Structure Fire in Bel Alton

11:05 p.m. Charles County Volunteers were dispatched to a "structure fire". Bel Alton Volunteers arrived with fire showing from side delta with extension into the attic and “went to work”! LaPlata Truck 1 arrived to assist with extension and overhaul. Waldorf E32 operated with second hand line, water supply was established, Command Chief10A (Frye) has command, requesting Fire Marshals Office, holding Bel Alton, La Plata, and tankers. 50 volunteer firefighters responded to the scene prior to being released by command. Fire Marshal's Investigator found the fire was the result of the exterior ventilation pipe of the pellet stove igniting vegetation on the exterior of the residence. The occupants were alerted by the smoke detectors in the residence and were able to escape without injury. Three adults have been displaced and are being assisted by family.
