Fire and EMS units from across Charles County and mutual aid from Prince George’s and St. Mary's Counties responded for a “Townhouse on Fire” at 11516 Spyglass Place in the Sheffield Sub-Division of Waldorf. This fire was reported to the Charles County 911 Communications Center at 9:44 A.M. and as units approached the scene “Heavy Fire Conditions” were evident on the 3 story in the front and 4 stories in the rear town house with extension in the “bravo” exposure. E31 (Waldorf) advanced attack lines into the main entrance of the structure to the #2 floor beginning an offensive attack on the seat of the fire. E121 arrived with support from La Plata Truck #1 advanced a secondary attack line to the 3rd floor with La Plata Chief 1A (Hutchins) supervising “Division 2”. While enroute Chief 3B (Mills) requested a “RIT Task Force” to the scene. Moments after the request Chief 3B arrived, established “Command” and request a “Second Alarm” due to the “wind conditions” and fire load. Units “staged” at Sheffield Circle and St. Andrews Drive. At this point, fire was traveling across the roof/attic line into the “Bravo” exposure. Within fifteen minutes the bulk of the fire was knocked down and personnel were removed from the main structure. Ladder pipe operations began with La Plata Truck #1 and PG County Truck 832 for about 15 minutes as a “safety precaution” of personnel operating on the scene. Two additional engine companies from staging were used as “relief” on the fire ground and remaining second alarm units were returned at approximately 11:00 A.M.
