Late last evening at 11:13 p.m. Charles County 911 center received a call from St. Mary's County 911 center reporting a person in the water near the Ledo's Pizza in Cobb Island. Charles County 911 immediately sent the "person in the water" assignment and 36 fire/EMS personnel to the area in Cobb Island. Units from Company #6 arrived in minutes, confirming a female has fallen in the water next to the pier adjacent to Ledo's. Chief 14 (Edelen) arrived establishing "command" at Rescue Engine #14. Two "Surface Water Technicians" from Cobb Island with assistance from Bel Alton Volunteer entered the waterway surrounding the pier attempting to locate the subject. Chief 10A (Frye) arrived and established "operations" and was the supervisor of all personnel on location. Trooper 7 was dispatched, and assisted with lighting the area and infrared camera. Minutes later, Trooper 7 notified "command" they had spotted the female subject on the pier pylons near where crews were attempting to locate. Crews swiftly made contact with the female subject who was conscious and alert. We thank everyone who responded to the scene including the outstanding 911 center professional dispatchers. A special thanks to the crew on Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 7 for their response and recovery assistance. Female and her companion were transported to CRMC for further evaluation.
