Tenth District Volunteers Rescue Two From the Potomac River

By Coordinator/Public Information Officer William Smith
June 11, 2019

Saturday afternoon, while returning from training, Fire Boat 8 was alerted for a boat taking on water in the Potomac River near marker 47. The boat was still at the launch site and was able to get underway immediately. Fireboat 8 arrived within about 3 minutes and found a 21’ vessel actively taking on water. The two occupants were removed and placed on the Fireboat. A de-watering pump was placed in service and the boat was successfully de-watered. The owner re-boarded the vessel and transported it back to shore. Fireboat 8 transported the other occupant back to shore. NDW Boat 20 was also on the scene. Use this as a friendly reminder....you should strongly consider tow insurance. Don’t wait until you need the help!
