The Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute in cooperation with the International Association of Fire Chiefs will be holding their 2019 National Fire Service Staff & Command Course March 10-16, 2019 at the Sheraton Baltimore North, in Towson, Maryland. Attendees of the program will explore current and evolving concepts in fire/EMS service management, leadership, and administration. The Maryland Fire Chiefs Association (MFCA) Training Committee, with funds from the SAFER Grant, is sponsoring 12 scholarship opportunities for Maryland Fire Service Personnel to attend the conference. The scholarship will reimburse scholarship recipients $1,595 for the conference registration, which includes all class materials, morning and afternoon break refreshments, six nights of lodging and the banquet on the evening of March 15th. In addition per diem will be reimbursed at $59/day.
The National Fire Service Staff & Command Course will identify and solve current management issues with leading fire service experts. Featuring nationally renowned fire service speakers, this intense five-day program provides in-depth analyses of current and evolving issues in the emergency services management. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and debate major issues facing fire/EMS departments while learning from experts in the field. Topics include: Situational Awareness and Fireground Decision-Making Awareness, Organizational Change, Legal Considerations in Personnel Management, Current Issues Facing the Fire Service, Public Relations and Politics.
Scholarship recipients will be required to submit all of their receipts at the conclusion of the conference for reimbursement up to the eligible amount. In addition, as part of the reimbursement process, attendees will be required to provide the MFCA Training Committee with a one page synopsis of what they learned in the course and how they will share such information with their department and/or jurisdiction.
Individuals applying for the scholarship MUST BE a current volunteer member in good standing of a Maryland volunteer fire, rescue and/or EMS company. The MFCA Training Committee would like to encourage everyone to apply for this scholarship opportunity.
